PATTADA GOMBE /DECORATED DOLL / WOODEN DOLL /DECORATED WOODEN DOLL /
MARAPACHI BOMMAI

The term Golu (sometimes called Bommai Golu) , quite literally, is the festival of dolls. In the 9 days of Navratri, households are decorated with a variety of dolls that are neatly arranged and placed in steps (called padi). The number of steps is usually an odd number—3, 5 or 7—depending on one’s capacity, interest and the number of dolls available. The collection of dolls comprise mostly of idols of different gods, depending on one’s faith and upbringing, along with miniature dolls of birds, animals, people, fruits, vegetables and lots of other everyday objects. What is most interesting is to note the similarities and differences in the collection of dolls across households, across families.

The  picture below this is called Pattada Gombe or Marapachi Bommai made of wood which is studded with the stone work.
